SAUDI ARABIA Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick from a distance of 30 meters against Abha was chosen as the best goal in round 21 of the Saudi League on March 21.
Ronaldo’s goal received 54.6% of the votes on the Saudi League homepage, topping the poll. Midfielder Igor Coronado (Al Ittihad) was second with 30% of the votes, while Salem Al-Dawsari (Al Hilal) was third with 15.4% of the votes.
This is Ronaldo’s ninth goal after eight matches in the Saudi League, and the second time he has received the best goal of the first round award. The first time the 38-year-old superstar did this was the goal to make it 2-0 against Damac in the 18th round on the evening of February 25, with a left foot shot from outside the penalty area and received 78% of the votes.
Ronaldo’s free kick helped Al Nassr equalize 1-1 against the away team Abha on the evening of March 18, before striker Anderson Talisca scored a 2-1 victory for the host from the penalty spot. Ronaldo’s performance was not enough to help him enter the team of the round. The strikers of the typical squad belong to Odion Ighalo (Al Hilal) and Abderrazak Hamdallah (Al Ittihad).
Since joining Al Nassr, Ronaldo has received many individual awards such as “Best Player” round 16 and 18 and the whole month of February in the Saudi League. He was also selected by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as the best player for February in the Western region, on March 6. The World Football Federation (FIFA) also praised Ronaldo “age is just a number”, when he continuously scored for Al Nassr
Ronaldo is sixth in the Saudi League top scorer race, six goals behind Hamdallah’s lead. The season has nine rounds to go, and the Portuguese striker still has a chance to get to the top. He was the top scorer in the Premier League in 2007-2008, La Liga 2010-2011, 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and Serie A 2020-2021. In addition, CR7 also holds the record of seven times as Champions League top scorer.
In the next match, Al Nassr was a guest on the field of the penultimate team Al Adalah on the evening of April 4, in round 21.
