The life of a Hollywood star began to change when Angelina Jolie was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) on August 27, 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland. Jolie was at an Afghan refugee camp during her four-day visit to Pakistan. Here, the UN Goodwill Ambassador thanked Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for allowing 3 million Afghans to seek asylum in the country.

Angelina had a working session with Deputy Foreign Minister of India, Mr. Anand Sharma in November 2006. During the conversation, Angelina expressed her joy that the Indian government has paid much attention to the lives of refugees, giving them the best possible living conditions.
