The honor was bestowed upon Ronaldo when he was awarded a medal by the Lisbon municipal hall
The Lisbon City Council has just authorized the decision to award the Medal of Honor to Cristiano Ronaldo, the current captain of the Portuguese national team and a striker for the Al Nassr club in Saudi Arabia.
The mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, verified this rumor during a recent press conference at Lisbon city hall.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or recipient, was born on the island of Madeira in Portugal. At the age of 12, he moved to Lisbon by himself and began training at the Sporting Lison club, which served as the springboard for his ascent to world-class status.
“This is a tribute to Ronaldo, who has been with Lisbon from the time he was a young child until he became a global superstar. Ronaldo has always protected, promoted, and brought the name of Lisbon to the world”, Mr. Moedas emphasized, “although he was not born in Lisbon, Ronaldo has demonstrated what a true and wonderful Lisbon he is.”
Moedas has also confirmed that Ronaldo’s extraordinary optimism will motivate and inspire the younger generation, allowing them to realize their ambitions.
President Cavaco Silva personally invited CR7 to the Presidential Palace to present this icon with the Prince Henry medal in recognition of Cristiano Ronaldo’s significant contributions to Portuguese sports.
The Order of Prince Henry is Portugal’s third-highest honor. This demonstrates Ronaldo’s extensive influence in promoting the country’s image through the round ball.
Ronaldo’s family, members of the government, the president of Real Madrid Club (Florentino Perez), the head coach of the Portuguese national team (Paulo Bento), and several other distinguished visitors attended the ceremony honoring Ronaldo at the Presidential Palace.
After presenting Ronaldo with the medal, President Anibal Cavaco Silva urged the Real Madrid superstar to strive, be disciplined, be determined to succeed, and become a shining example for the next generation.
Ronaldo stated that he was extremely moved and honored to receive the prestigious accolade from the President. CR7 confirmed that it will inspire him to endeavor harder in the future.
On the 500th anniversary of the Prince’s demise, June 2, 1960, the Prince Henry Medal was created to recognize outstanding citizens who have made significant contributions to the nation.
