The couple could be seen jumping up and down as the home team eventually built a 5-1 lead.
The home team’s fifth and final goal came through 16-year-old debutant Alex Pfeiffer, who rocketed in a left-footed shot in the 68th minute.
From there, things got dicey as Portland cut the lead to 5-4, but KC held on for the win in their new stadium.
US women’s national team star Sophia Smith finished the game with two goals for the visitors.
Before kickoff, Patrick and Brittany were handed a microphone and addressed the crowd.
‘This is his tory, this is incredible, and for you guys to show up for these women and their own stadium is amazing,’ Brittany said.
Patrick, meanwhile, led a ‘Let’s go KC, baby!’ chant to rile up the crowd.
The couple was also front and center for the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Current chairman and CEO Chris Long, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas and NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman.
Built at a cost of nearly $120million on the banks of the Missouri River, CPKC Stadium represents one of the few facilities in the world that has been constructed expressly for the use of female athletes.
The stadium holds 11,000 seats, and season tickets have been sold out for months.
The demand for single-game seats is strong enough that some fans already are wondering when the stadium will expand. It was designed so that seats can be added in the future.
